Place the image of Jesus Christ on one side of the room, and the family photo on the other side of the room. Scatter the random objects around the room, so that there is no path available between the two photos.
Explain: The image of Jesus Christ represents the Lord, and the family photo represents each of you! All of the other objects represent the things that can get in the way and block the Lord from coming into our lives. Now, invite the children to “prepare the way” for Jesus Christ and to clear a pathway between the photos!
After you complete the activity, discuss the following question:
1) What are some things that can get in the way and block the Lord from coming into our lives? (Discuss.)
2) What are some things that we can do to clear the way for the Lord to invite Him into our lives? (Discuss.)

🎥 V I D E O : "Preparing the Way for the Lord | Animated Scripture Lesson for Kids"
Now we are going to watch a video about some children who are riding in a bus to go on a long trip. Let’s watch and see what would happen if they didn’t have a road!
Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1) What would happen if there wasn’t a road prepared for the bus? (The ride would be bumpy and it would be more difficult for them to get through.)
2) What did the workers have to do to prepare the way for the bus? (They had to lower the hills, fill in the holes and make the rough places smooth.)
3) What do you think we can do to fix the rough places in our heart? (Discuss.)
4) Who can help us to fix the rough places in our heart? (Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father! We can also help one another by showing love, by forgiving others, and by serving others.)
➤ S C R I P T U R E
Read the following scriptures and discuss the questions that follow.
[Read the last part of Isaiah 40:3]
…prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
1) What is a highway? (A highway is a road that can be used by a lot of people to travel quickly to where they are going!)
2) What do you think will happen if we make a highway for the Lord into our life? (He will lead us, and he will be a part of our lives every day!)
3) What are some things we can do to invite the Lord into our life every day? (Discuss.)
And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
1) What does this scripture say will happen if we will harden our hearts? (We will receive less from the Lord!)
2) What does this scripture say will happen if we will not harden our hearts? (We will receive more from the Lord!)
Prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh;
1) This scripture says that “the Lord is nigh.” Do you know what “nigh” means? (It means nearby, or almost here!)
2) How do you feel when you hear that the Lord is nearby? (Discuss.)
3) What can we do to prepare ourselves for Him to be here? (Discuss.)
4) What can we do to prepare others for Him to be here? (Discuss.)
