Joy in Every Season: Nov 20th-26th

The soul that is “filled” with Christ will be filled with joy. He has overcome the world! He has conquered death! God has already won!

God’s marvelous works are being performed right now, all around us - and within us! Even when we feel like we are surrounded by adversity, we can know of a surety that “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep!”

This week’s lesson bundle is designed to help children learn to look to the Lord in faith no matter their circumstances.

You will need to clear enough space in the room for the children to be able to freely move around for the introduction activity.

Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.

Tell children they will be completing a series of challenges as an introduction to the lesson.

First challenge: Invite children to simply go from one side of the room to the other.

Second challenge: Invite children to go again from one side of the room to the other, but this time they can only use one foot.

Third challenge: Now invite children to go once again from one side of the room to the other, and this time they must use no feet! (They can use knees, hands and elbows, army crawl, etc.)

After completing the activity, ask the following questions:

  1. When the rules changed, did your goal change too? Or was the goal the same? (The goal was still the same!)

  2. When the rules changed, did you give up on the goal? Or did you keep trying? (Hopefully everyone had fun still trying their best to accomplish the goal!)

  3. When the rules changed, did it only make you mad, or was it kind of fun too? (Hopefully kind of fun!)

Explain the following: Things around us change all the time. Some days are good days, and some days are bad days. But we can find joy anytime if we stay focused on the most important thing! No matter what happens, we can always trust Heavenly Father and we can look to Him in faith.

🎥 V I D E O : "Joy in Every Season"

Say: “Now we are going to watch a video about two robots - a green robot, and a yellow robot. One robot looks for the bad, and one robot looks for the good. See if you can tell which robot looks for the good in everything!

Discuss the following questions after watching the video:

  1. Which robot was happy in every season? (The green robot.)

  2. Which robot was not happy in every season? (The yellow robot.)

  3. If the same thing happened to both robots, why do you think the green robot was able to be happy all the time but not the yellow robot? (The green robot looked for the good things and stayed focused on the most important things.)

Read the verses below and discuss the questions that follow.

“But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;”

  1. If we are righteous, does that mean we will never suffer or have a bad day? (No. Even if we are righteous, we will still feel pain and sorrow sometimes and have bad days sometimes.)

  2. How do you think we can be happy even if we are suffering? (We can focus on the good things, we can look forward with hope to a better day, and we can feel peace in our hearts through the Lord and the Holy Ghost.)

  3. Did Jesus ever suffer or feel sorrow? (Yes.)

  4. What did Jesus focus on? (He focused on the things that were most important to Him, like obeying Heavenly Father and showing perfect love to each of us!)

  1. What does it mean when the verse says “peace be unto thy soul?” (The Lord comforts us when we are facing something hard. He wants to give us peace.)

  2. Who can give us peace in our hearts? (True peace comes from the Lord and the Holy Ghost. We must stay close to them and if we do, we can always find peace!)

  3. When we feel sorrow or are having a bad day, what can we do to feel peace? (We can focus on the good things, we can have hope in Jesus Christ for a better day, and we can soften our heart to let the Lord inside to give us peace.)

Explain that we can rejoice because of Jesus Chirst! He has the power to fill our hearts with peace, and bring us back to Heavenly Father. We can trust Him, we can have hope in Him, and we can always find peace through Him no matter what.

Invite children to color the robots, cut them out, and then tape (or glue) each robot onto a popsicle stick. Present the following scenarios to children. For each scenario, invite them to hold up the green robot and discuss what the green robot would do and then hold up the yellow robot and discuss what the yellow robot would do.

  1. Someone bumped into you and made you drop your food on the floor.

  2. You can’t find your shoes when you are getting ready to leave.

  3. Someone else got two presents but you only got one.

  4. You want to play, but you have to help clean the kitchen first.

  5. It’s bedtime and you don’t want to go to bed.
