Joseph had many challenges that could have justified anger, but he chose forgiveness. Joseph understood that forgiveness is a gift we each need, and in turn, God asks us to extend forgiveness to others.
We hope this lesson can help your children learn about the peace that comes from forgiveness.

Give each child a piece of paper and ask them to fold the paper in half three times. After they
complete the task, give each child a new piece of paper. Now tell the children to close their hands into
really tight fists and ask them to attempt the same folding challenge again while continuing to
squeeze their fists tightly! After they try it, invite them to continue to squeeze their fists tightly while
you explain the following:
“This is what our hearts feel like when we are angry (squeezing tight with our fists). It takes a lot of
energy, and it makes us so tired! And when we are angry, it’s really hard to do anything except be
angry! But when we forgive (instruct children to release their hands), we feel peace, and we are free
act once again. It is much easier to do the things we want to do. (Wiggle your fingers around to
demonstrate the freedom of movement).
