I Am the Good Shepherd: April 24th-30th

What difference does it make to know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know and love you personally?

If they know and love you, it means you can trust them! It means they will never leave you alone or forget about you! It means they always want you to be with them! It means they want to use their power to bless, strengthen, comfort, heal, and redeem you!

Do you know that Heavenly Father loves you? Do you know that Jesus Christ loves you?

We invite and encourage you to revisit and ponder these important questions together with the children in your life as you study the scriptures this week!

Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.

🎶 O P E N I N G S O N G : "My Heavenly Father Loves Me"

➤ P R E P A R A T I O N

You will need a fresh dollar bill that is in relatively good shape (or some other type of paper currency), and you will need an individual photo of each person who is present for the lesson. If you don’t have a photo of each person, you could also write individual names on separate pieces of paper.

➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N

Hold up the dollar bill and discuss the following questions:

1) What is this? (A dollar bill.)

2) How much is it worth? (One dollar.)

3) What can you buy with this dollar? (Discuss things that the children would like to buy with the dollar.)

4) Does anyone want this dollar? (Yes!)

Now crumple up the dollar bill, drop on the floor, kick it around, step on it, etc. Leave it on the floor (still crumpled up), and ask the following questions.

1) Now how much is this dollar worth? (It is still worth one dollar!)

2) Can you still buy things with it? (You can still buy all the same things!)

3) Is this dollar still valuable? (Yes!)

4) Do you still want this dollar? (Yes!)

Now hold up the individual photos of each person present and explain the following:

Just like the dollar was always valuable to you, you will always be valuable to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know each of you. They know your names. You are so precious to Them! They always want you to be with them, and They always love you!

🎥 V I D E O : "I Am the Good Shepherd | Animated Scripture Lesson"

Say: “Now we are going to watch a video about a shepherd and his sheep. Let’s watch and see how much the shepherd loves his sheep.”

Discuss the following questions after watching the video:

1) How did the true shepherd feel about His sheep? (He loves them! They are his sheep, and he knows each one of the sheep. He will do anything to protect them and take care of them.)

2) The true shepherd was a symbol for someone. Do you know who? (Jesus Christ!)

3) How does Jesus Christ feel about each one of us? (He knows each one of us, and He loves each one of us! We are His sheep!)

➤ S C R I P T U R E

Read the following scriptures and discuss the questions that follow.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

1) What does it mean when Jesus says He is the good shepherd? (It means that we are His sheep and he knows each one of us and loves us. Just like a true shepherd knows his sheep.)

2) What was Jesus Christ willing to do for us? (He was willing to give His life for us!)

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

1) How much do you think Heavenly Father loves Jesus Christ? (A lot!)

2) How much did Jesus say he loves us? (As much as the Father loves Him!)

3) In this scripture, does Jesus tell us to give up? Or to continue and to keep going? (To continue and keep going!)

4) If we know that Christ and Heavenly Father love us very much, how can that help us? (We know we can trust them. We know they will never leave us or forget about us. We know they always want us to be with them. We know they will use their power to bless us.)

Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God;

For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.

1) What does this scripture tell us to remember? (That our souls are of great worth to God.)

2) What did the Lord do that shows how much we are worth to Him? (He gave His life to redeem us.)

➤ C O L O R I N G P A G E S

Pass out the coloring pages, one to each child. Invite the children to color the scene from the video! Use this time to talk about how much Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love each one of us.

➤ T E S T I M O N Y
