This is My Work and My Glory (Come Follow Me Lesson for Kids: Jan 5-11)

We all have important work to do on the earth, and so does the Lord! He tells us that we are his work and his glory! He came to earth so that we can return to our heavenly home.
This week's lesson can help your kids understand that the Lord loves us and wants to bless us.

➤ P R E P A R A T I O N
Gather a variety of objects that represent different professions. These should be everyday items that
clearly suggest a specific job, so children can make connections easily. For example, you might
include a hammer to represent a construction worker, a paintbrush for an artist, a small shovel for a
farmer, or a notebook or piece of chalk for a teacher. Place the items in a box or bag so you can pull
them out one at a time to show to the children.

Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.
🎶 O P E N I N G S O N G : “Come, Follow Me”
➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N
Place the bag of items in the center of the room. Invite one child at a time to come forward and pull
an item from the bag so everyone can see it. As each item is revealed, invite the group to guess which
profession would use it.
Once all the items have been shown, ask the children to return to their seats.
Explain: “We all have work to do here on earth. When someone has a specific job, they focus on it,
practice it, and try to become really good at it. In the scriptures, we learn that Heavenly Father also
has a work to do. And today, we’re going to find out what His work is!”

Explain: “Now we are going to watch a video about lots of people who are working on different things!
Watch and see what things they are working on!”

Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1. What are some things that the people in the video were working on? (Discuss different professions
that the children remember.)
2. Do you remember what Heavenly Father’s work is? (To bring to pass the immortality and eternal
life of man!)

Read the following scripture verses and discuss the questions that follow.
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
What is Heavenly Father’s work? (To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man!)
What does immortality mean? (It means our body will live forever.)
What does eternal life mean? (It means to live with God and be like Him.)
17 Go thy way and do as I have told you, and fear not thine enemies; for they shall not have power to stop
my work.
Does anyone have the power to stop God from doing His work? (No!)
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
What work does Jesus tell us He is doing? (He wants to finish the work of His Father!)
What are some things that Jesus Christ has done to do His Father’s work? (Discuss.)
21 Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and ye know the things that ye must do in my church;
for the works which ye have seen me do that shall ye also do; for that which ye have seen me do even that
shall ye do...
What work does Jesus Christ invite us to do? (He wants us to also help do Heavenly Father’s work.)
What are some things we can do to help Heavenly Father with His work? (Discuss.)
